Back to Introduction

We are writing to you because you were good enough to write to us.  It also gives us an opportunity to rub it in that we're here, and your not.

Doing a lot of walking around and sight seeing.  Not today though, we are totally buggered and might spend the day resting instead.

The sights of BKK are a lot better this time around as we have more time to appreciate them without the "Touristy" guide we had last time.  We also have a better geographical  appreciation of the landmarks now that we are walking to the blasted things.

We are staying at the 'Marco Polo GuestHouse' that is about 14 dollars a night with a shower (hot water no less) and air con.  Pretty flash!  We are considering a foray into the "traditional Thai Massage".  We're not sure hoe traditional it is but for $5 we'll have some sort of action
going on around our spines at any rate.

Food's been excellent.  If you reckon the food at Just Jurgens is all right Mitch, you have no idea!  *grin* (it's just as crowded as that  little cafe though...)

Lovey dovey stuff from:-

Nicole and Leigh.

Dear all,

Just a quick update on what we are doing and what you are not.

We are still travelling the world.  You, still, are not.

We have been enjoying Bangkok though it is time to depart.  We have had about enough of Tuk Tuk drivers suggesting we take their 10 baht (50 cents) for an hour tour offer, and people trying to sell you really dumb things.

We've done all the touristy things we could possibly do, and today resorted to hopping on a bus, sitting on it for ages, and then hopping on a boat, and sitting on it for ages back (the difference being we got wet....  With putrid, polluted river water).  We did, on the upside, get the chance to see some fine Thai men embalmed and displayed for all to see.  They were quite nice.  And the way they leant nonchalantly against the 'cabinets' glass door really set it off (the pickled babies in jars were also a treat).  This, incidentally, was the BKK museum of Forensic Science.  Quite groovy.

That's about it.  We're leaving in the morning for a trip up to the River Kwai, a few islands, the oldest city in Thailand and stuff like that.   It should be good.

Leigh says:  For all my entomological buddies - I am going to try find the vendor that was selling the bugs...  I am not sure how they were prepared but they smell better than the ones in the collection.

That is all.  See you when we once more return to civilisation (or at least near on onramp of the "INFORMATION SUPER HIGHWAY!!!!!")

Nicole and Leighroy.

Hi there everyone,

Here's a very quick update of our activities over the last few weeks.

We have been stuck right next to "The Middle of Nowhere".

We left Bangkok and went on our 4 day trip that turned out to be more of a 3 day trip with 50% of it missing, but it was still quite good. We went to the old capital Ayuthaya where we saw lots of old temples. Then we went somewhere else and saw lots of old temples, and then we saw some temples.  Some other highlights of this trip were:-

*  JEATH museum but we didn't make it to the bridge (Over The River Kwai)
*  Thailand's Wax Museum (Human Imagery Museum - it sounded so good!)
*  A 45 minute "Long Tailed Boat" ride to a small village.
*  Gold panning
*  Ox cart riding.
*  Bamboo rafting
*  Lot's of food.

That was our trip.  Then we went and did our "group conservation placement" in Pillokhi.  It was the two of us, teaching english.  So as you can imagine, the term "GROUP *conservation* placement" was altered just a little.  The village was accessible only by boat and there were no cars, no electricity except from solar recharged car batteries and basically no 'mod-cons'.  Most huts did, however, have there own satellite dish.  No shit!

Here we played Volleyball with some of the lads, but did, in no way attempt to play their funny "Whack the Cane Ball Over the Net with your Head or Feet".  At least that's what we think it was called.

We are now near Phutong at the Hindad Elephant(less) Camp. We are not sure what we are supposed to do here so we decided to piss off to Kanchanaburi which is two hours away.  It's a little more 'upmarket' with things like the internet (and, god willing, English Books).

The people at Hindad have some strange ideas (a sauna in Thailand - no thanks)

We are here for a while longer and then we are going back to Bangkok to fly to South Africa.  That is about all.

You might hear from us again from Bangkok, but other than that, we are going to sneak back into the Thailand wilderness once more.

Talk to you soon.

Nicole and Leigh,.

Hey there,

Please note the new name for this, more appropriate, forum on world travel - by us!

We must say thank you for all the people that write to us - we do appreciate the news from home even though we do not always get the time (pronounced "munn - ee") to write back to you personally.

Further more, to all those people who don't like getting our mails.... Stiff, you probably delete it when it hit's your inbox anyway, so you wouldn't be reading this!

Now, what have we been up to?

To extend on our trip to Pillokhi, the first village where we taught english.  We submitted our report on the environmental work that we did get around to do, and thought this report would go no further than the chicky we were doing the work for...  no, it was submitted verbatim to a
government department and they are launching an investigation into what we said and trying to fix some things up.  Funny how things are never what they seem in sunny old asia.

Our remaining time in the Hindat Elephant(less) Camp was spent reading the English Books (yipeee!!!) we found in Kanchanaburi.....  And that was about it .  We also submitted a report for that place, but I am sure it is not as important or impressive as the other one... Then again, we didn't expect the first one to be read by other than our associate.  Who knows????

We are now back in Putrid Bangkok, and loving ever minute of it.  The city has a whole new slant on it when you can tell those "pesky" (we won't tell you how to pronounce that one....) tuk-tuk drivers to P.O. in their own language, or at least something that we believe is pretty
close.  We still haven't tasted the delights of a traditional Thai massage but that will be happening in the next 24 hours, one of us has already checked out the local, and age old we might add, custom of depilatory action on the pits and legs!  A very cultural experience!!

OK.  That's it.  Next time you hear from us we will most likely be in Cape Town.  Unless Worcester has indeed email access (which it may).  We are certainly looking forward to a particular train ride from Jo'burg to Cape Town of around 27 hours.....  Hope one of us doesn't get bored and begin annoying the other by poking him or her in the ribs constantly....

Lovely talking to you all.  Until next time (when everything around us doesn't smell like a rotting animal carcass.....

Us..
